Jonathan Horton told reporters he was "disappointed" with his showing in Tuesday's preliminary competition. "I'm not really worried but I can do much better than I did", he said after the second subdivision. "I'm not going to say it was an uncharacteristic fall on pommel horse since that tends to happen to me a lot. I feel like I've been swinging pommels a lot better lately, I'm a lot more consistent in training. It's definitely not a confidence issue." Horton said he felt in better shape than at US Nationals in the summer. "I'm more confident and in better shape. It's just that this funky stuff happens [in competition]. I had a very uncharacteristic mistake on rings, which cost me two tenths in D score. I can score about a point higher on rings." Going into the last subdivision, Horton sat in fifth place and was hoping to retain a top six finish in order to be able to compete in the top group in Thursday's all-around competition.
